Resident Evil 2 C4 Detonator Location and How to Use It

Navigating the terrifying halls of the Raccoon City Police Department in Resident Evil 2 requires solving various environmental puzzles to escape safely. One of the primary obstacles early in the game is a barricaded door on the third floor blocked by explosive C4 charges. To bypass this obstacle, players must locate the necessary components to assemble a working detonator and claim the essential Maiden Medallion hidden behind the blast site.

Where to Find the Detonator Base Gadget

The core component of the explosive device is originally labeled as an Electronic Gadget. You can find this item sitting on a desk inside a locked room located directly south of the Operations Room on the first floor. Accessing this room requires using the Bolt Cutters to slice through the heavy chains securing the door.

Once you pick up the Electronic Gadget, inspect it in your inventory to register it as the Detonator. However, the gadget cannot trigger the C4 charge on its own because it lacks a power source. You will need to explore further into the station to secure a working battery.

Locating the Battery Source in the RPD

To power the device, players must navigate to the second floor of the police station. You will need to use the Round Handle inside the shower room to stop the steam blocking your path down the hallway. Afterward, head toward the S.T.A.R.S. Office while staying cautious of dangerous Lickers prowling the corridor.

Inside the S.T.A.R.S. Office, check the desk on the left side of the room to retrieve the Battery. Once acquired, open your inventory screen and combine the Battery with the Detonator. This creates a functional explosive trigger ready to be deployed at the blast zone.

How to Trigger the C4 and Access the Maiden Statue

With the fully assembled detonator ready, climb the stairwell to reach the West Storage Room on the third floor. Approach the barricaded wall where the C4 explosive is attached and interact with it to attach your detonator. Set the ten-second timer and immediately back away to a safe distance to avoid taking blast damage.

After the explosion opens the pathway, step inside the chamber to complete the Maiden Statue puzzle and claim your medallion. Be prepared for immediate combat, as the loud blast causes a nearby locker to tip over and awakens hostile enemies in the area. Clearing the room quickly allows you to retreat back toward the Main Hall to advance your story progress.
